The base chips are pretty freaking fast. My $400 M2 Mac Mini with 8gb of ram runs software that 5 years earlier took a $2000 GPU to do.
Apple is great if you aren't optioning out a computer. The mac mini is a crazy deal unless you start upgrading it then. The last mac mini had way too little ram for most people. Part of what makes the M4 mini so good is you save $100 on the extra ram, and it's faster than ever.
