I was mentioning on here recently that a theme of the 21st century seems to be taking the shells/names of things that were good in the 20th century and putting them on something crappy. Obvious examples are all the major nonprofits (ACLU, SPLC, etc.), as well as magazines (especially “progressive” ones), but there are also non-political examples such as Maytag and other appliance companies, once making solid machines right here in the USA. The machines they once made lasted for decades; now, you’re lucky to get a few years out of appliances with the very same names.

It just occurred to me that Antifa could be put in this context. The 20th century anti-fascist movement in Europe was probably legit. If I recall correctly, Andy Ngo doesn’t think it was ever very good, but at least, perhaps, it was more genuine and less likely to target completely ordinary, nowhere-near-fascist people Whatever it was, it was a real thing. Now, it’s more or less the paramilitary of a corrupt American political party. They could have called the new version something else, but they didn’t. They chose the name of something with a good reputation from the 20th century.
