The SMH refers to the idea that if the warnings sound too dire, them people will switch off. That's a dilemma, isn't it? If you don't tell people about it, nothing will happen. If you do tell people about it, they'll be so scared they'll go LALALALALALA and nothing will happen. But surely we have to be informed and not mollycoddled.
