⚡️🇪🇺 NEW - Christine Lagarde confirms that the European Central Bank is preparing for the introduction of the digital euro to pay for our everyday purchases.
The goal is to allow Europeans to pay with public money both in stores and online, without replacing banknotes and coins.
The ECB plans a 12-month pilot phase starting in the second half of 2027 and hopes that the legislative framework will be adopted by the end of 2026.
A potential public launch could then take place in 2029, subject to European decisions.
