So, Just for shits and giggles, I decided to create a new Facebook account using a secondary Nostrmail account which is used for spoofing purposes and has got the npub code in the email address.
I was interested to see how far I got through the registration process. Quite a way actually, but not All the way.
1) I got the account registered through nmail, not mobile phone.
2) Got the 5 digit verification pinging back to my Nmail account. No worries there.
3) Confirm gender. All OK so far.
And then the catch, facial recognition. It asked for a selfie. My fake account posed as a young Japanese woman, my VPN was set to Tokyo to embellish the spoof. I'm neither living in Tokyo nor am I Japanese, nor female. Lol.
But I didn't venture further than this screen because quite simply, facial recognition is a step too far.
Now, I didn't actually use the official Facebook app. I used an alt app called Friendly Facebook, but it seems the screening process cannot be bypassed even by the alt apps.
I expect in the near future that X will also employ the same verification process. They have already threatened biometric facial recognition, so at some point that will kick in on X.
Thank goodness for Nostr.
