it's def a little bit of using them (I'm still slightly confused on when I'm added to a "feed") but also (at least for gamedevs) there are labellers you can subscribe to which also help avoid the need for certain tags. The biggest way I find people is finding a person I like, and checking out their starter packs. Starter packs are basically curated suggested follow lists created by that person generally by some subject. I will add you to my indie game devs, vo, writers, etc pack! 💜
