my parents rotary club has sponsored a library for 3 primary schools in Stoke On Trent for the last 10 years or so.
They donate books each year that kids can keep as well as to have in the school. Many of them are from publisher's end of line warehouses. They go down with several cars, fill them with discounted books that the club pays for and then sort and distribute to the 3 schools.
I was gobsmacked when I heard none of the schools (in some of most deprived parts of the country admittedly) had no library.. apparently it's a long term issue. One of the schools was built only about 15 years ago *and didn't have space for a library* ! 😱
