A new ZX Spectrum Next laptop was designed from scratch by an enthusiast, independent from the official Spectrum Next Kickstarter or team. Improvements included using a larger 14" WXGA LED screen supporting HDMI and VGA, hinges from a recent laptop, and incorporating a genuine Spectrum Next keyboard. The laptop uses a mini PCB compatible with Raspberry Pi and WiFi modules, replacing the bulkier original dev board. Custom parts were 3D printed and professionally finished. A 12V UPS with a 10,000 mAh battery enables about six hours of untethered play. An Arduino Nano was implemented to control LCD backlight brightness via keyboard shortcuts without modifying the Raspberry Pi software, ensuring standard Next distribution compatibility while handling laptop-specific features.
