what are anonymous npubs? You can generate a random npub and pay a relay subscription easier than saying cake

I get it, ecash is a cool solution for auth since its both authorization and payment at the same time, but if you're buying giftcards from the same closed loop mint then you're just buying credits. Sure you could resell your credits but thats even more of a stretch.

At least embrace the total chaos, black market money and the full cyherpunk dream, lets not back off to closed loop systems and whatever just to please regulators. Anonymous npubs and "regulate me harder daddy" vibes don't go together.

But more importantly, its a stretch of a use case. I paid for some relays at some point. Some others did as well. Clearly noone is doing it at any scale that would sustain businesses running them.

Everyone fucked themselves with upfront payments because that was an easy rug pull later. There is real cost to infrastructure, I've been running a lot of it for a long time.

The problem of paying for relays is not another layer of abstraction and more fancy tech, its the problem of social norms, users that have been spoiled and got used to being the product and that everything is free. None of the problems that ecash based payments per note will solve.

Lets at least be intellectually honest, we like toys to play with. Its ok to admit it. Its great to play with new tech and imagine what can be done with it. But lets also be honest with ourselves, just more tech is not the solution to every problem, otherwise we'd already solved everything because theres endless amount of new projects started every day that get abandoned and forgotten faster than the keyboard cools down from all the rage typing.

Our problems are societal, our problems are the habits of users and the fact that people expect things for free.
