⚡️⛏️ NEW - Bitcoin developer proposes temporarily withholding the block reward from miners to discourage those who are only in it for the money.

He points out that miners currently have to wait 100 blocks before they can spend newly created BTC. Among the ideas being discussed are extending this period to 4,375 blocks—about one month—or a much more extreme measure of temporarily reducing the block reward to zero for one month. Miners would then receive only transaction fees.

The goal would be to discourage a large amount of computing power whose operators are motivated solely by profitability and who, according to Dashjr, would contribute to a problematic centralization of mining.
