Yea if you pay only that much you can only attract people who believe it’s fair. Most of them end up being unskilled their whole lives (I’m excluding you). Infantry has a strong White presence so I was mostly with White guys but a huge portion of the military is poor Mexicans or blacks trying to get out of even shittier living conditions. White guys, who are even halfway competent, deserve way better than that. There’s no real avenue in enlistment for that beyond meritorious promotions or a very long time investment. Considering some of the risks at play for some of the jobs, particularly the ones White guys tend to do, the value proposition is really low.
