There's merit in repeating work and two studies are unlikely to be completely overlapping I guess. But that story makes me sad that we're supposed to build on knowledge not reinvent the wheel every time. I doubt poor scholarship is to blame most of the time. I think we could vastly improve the searchability of past literature (I mean, a lot of it is not properly searchable for a start).
