Yesterday, we visited the Sunspot Solar Observatory. There’s a 250+ ton telescope encased in a vacuum tube hanging vertically from the top of this tower. The tube descends over 228 ft into the ground and is held up by a float sitting in a 10-ton tub of mercury. 🧵1/
