Block demand is low, so it can be used perfectly well as money on L1.
If you need privacy, you don’t even need to use the flawed Lightning Network—there are protocols like Joinstr on the mainnet, as well as the ability to pay with CoinJoin via Wasabi and the new versions of JoinMarket.
