please recoew the fatwa i linked above (both quran evidence and historic and modern scholars sited). supplicating to Allah through an intermediary is normative sunni practice and the shia aren't doing anything different than what sunnis already recognized as permissible wasila.
don't get me started on taqiya. that is an intellectual discussion killer and pointless polemic as i've said before.
