I got my long-suffering RL parents sucked into a scam like this in childhood, winding up with a set of encyclopedias that I can't honestly say were worth the money. But as a wee child I didn't understand that aspect of things; I just wanted the world in one set of books.
This evil genius of #capitalism for dividing things up into little pieces and then charging an extra high profit markup on every little piece doesn't just apply to material things or even to "virtual" stuff like #videogames or other #software. It can be applied to abstract entities, to ideals and virtues.
