It’s very easy to say ‘I’m not a fan of cruises’, ‘I don’t visit countries with dubious human rights records’ or even ‘I’m not gay, what’s this got to do with me?’
But that misses the point that Turkey and Egypt’s economies depend on tourism. They also like to think that they play a pivotal role in terms of diplomacy on the world stage.
They are trying to make homophobia acceptable.
