Quick unformed #OpenSource #programming thoughts:
We're so used to “how GitHub works” that perhaps we lack the imagination that there could be other ways to organize, manage, and perform operations on Git repositories.
More specifically, perhaps the reason so many projects are run de facto using a “BDFL / core team” model is because that's just very easy to do on GitHub. Other models are perhaps more difficult—aka you gain no benefits from any tooling provided by GitHub itself.
