Framing any technical discussion about software choice in terms of the ethics of opt out or opt in is missing the larger point that virtually nobody changes the default settings on their software either way, because outside a rounding-error number of particular nerds nobody knows those choices exist, much less understands them, much less how to express an ethical or moral intention in them, and this is not a people failure, it is a software accessibility failure.
