the aussie accent has this intonation where the end of the sentence is often pronounced at a higher pitch
in British English, a higher pitch at the end of the sentence often indicates scepticism or worse
so when I first arrived here and in the shops my “thank you” was answered by a “that’s alright”, with “right” in a higher tone, to my UK-trained ear that sounded like “that was definitely not alright, which should have been obvious to you” 😅 (I’m used to it now)
