Ancient fedizens, lend me what remains of your memories:
About 20 years ago I remember playing Half-Life 1 and finding that a bunch of object and character geometry looked like it had been inflated slightly. Not scaled up, but rounded and puffy.
After some fiddling I worked out that the GPU driver had shipped a new "geometry smoothing" feature that tried to interpolate and smooth models, leading to some really wonky effects.
Does anyone else remember this? I can find no digital trace.
