I think the hassle with building on the sm bridge is that with the sharp turn and high elevation the trains would need to significantly pull down speed for safety through the winter. The transbay tube is a bit magical bc the trains can approach 80mph with few service restrictions. If you were reduced to the ~40mph wet weather speeds that pop up in the winter, plus perhaps restrictions based on wind, it may be difficult to make the timing competitive with driving for a lot of folks. I’m a big fan of an airport-connector transbay tube which would connect to the sfo wye and join up with the oak beige line but that’s just my preference
