There’s a sentiment that Trump doesn’t realize what he’s doing with these tariffs. His rationale is very much baloney but it’s a ruse. He’s not trying to bring manufacturing home or correct trade imbalances with other countries. He wants the U.S. thrown into a tailspin that puts most Americans into personal crises so that when he starts rolling out the truly draconian measurses they’re in no position to resist.
