According to the Financial Times, citing individuals familiar with the matter, Chinese President Xi Jinping told U.S. President Donald Trump that Russian President Vladimir Putin may ultimately come to regret his decision to invade Ukraine.
The report states that Xi made the remark during his recent summit with Trump in Beijing, marking a notable departure from his previous discussions with former U.S. President Joe Biden, in which he had not expressed such a view.
China has, however, provided increasing financial and material support to Russia since the launch of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. This support has included the supply of dual-use technologies and components that indirectly bolster Russia’s military capabilities, as well as expanded economic cooperation that has helped Moscow mitigate the impact of sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union.
