When my little brother was small, he couldn’t pronounce the word “truck” properly, even though he loved them. He would say “fruck,” which obviously has its own problems.

My father, trying to correct him, sounding it out, “T-t-t-truck.”

My brother replied, “T-t-t-fruck.”

When I was small, my mother says I asked for a “Nap-i-kin.”

My mother tried to correct me, “Napkin.”

“Napikin,” I replied.

“No. Napkin.”

“Can I have a paper towel?”
