France is still clearing out bombs from WWI. According to Wikipedia they still collect about 900 tons of explosives a year and some 630 people from their EOD department have died since WW2 in the effort. My mom was an exchange student in the 1970's and she remembers hearing about farmers who would be out plowing a field and just get blown up when they hit something. This was a frequent occurrence. Apparently in 1991 thirty six farmers died this way.
