Fragonard. Renaud in the Forest, 1763.
Max Ernst #Painting for comparison.
Few today would call Fragonard their cup of tea. Most modern "people of taste" consider him only symbolic camp, kitsch, ironic, simplistic, saccharin. But his mark has lasted for centuries, defining ideals such as the very purpose of painting, "the good life" as hedonistic abundance, libertinism, femininity, class, explicit desire in romance, opera, and even porn. Our visual vocabulary descends from his rococococo.
