That makes sense as to why it happened when it did, I was a teenager then and didn’t quite follow the rationale. The government sold nearly everything off that it “owned” to make a fast buck to please their voters by reducing taxes. And sold off council houses of course to make a generation of home owners. Then my generation and the one just above pulled up the ladder leaving today’s mess
