The Screwtape Letters is the most thought provoking book I've read in ages. Taking the form of letters from a senior demon (Screwtape) to an apprentice demon (Wormwood), the book makes you realise the constant competition between good and evil at play in your own mind.

In this passage Screwtape explains that the demons have convinced their human subjects that there is no difference between owning a pair of boots (my boots) and claiming possession of a god (my God).

The book is full of amazing insights like this. Highly recommended.
