I'm no expert and wasn't there obviously so I can't say I know anything definitively, but like it says, you will know them by their fruits and what I see is a cult belief system that serves the benefit of the power structure. It's speculated that the ones who created it were co-opting it to make it so the rulers subjects will tolerate the many abuses and thefts. Sort of like a mental analgesic so that the jews host doesn't realize or tolerates the parasitism.
