What something like baptism or citizenship does, is create a super-race, i.e. a higher-level racial grouping.
Christians, for instance, believe that baptism creates a super-race of immortal humans. Superhumans, so to say.

That is why Christians are not supposed to engage in interracial marriage (i.e. to someone who isn't also immortal), as that is to be "unequally yoked".
