TIL Dolores O'Riordan, lead singer of The Cranberries and writer of "Zombie," died suddenly in 2018, the day before she was supposed to collaborate on a cover of the song with the L. A. metal band Bad Wolves. The Irish-born O'Riordan had written the song in protest against the violence perpetrated by the IRA during the "Troubles"--particularly when she saw that a 3-year old and young teen had been victims. "What's in your head, zombie?"

Bad Wolves went forward with the recording, lightly modifying the chorus to "with their tanks, and their bombs, and their guns, and their drones," and another to "it's the same old theme in 2018." When I heard that first edit--unexpectedly--it sure hit different.
