Ethereum's native privacy transfer proposal, EIP-8182, has been officially nominated for inclusion in the upcoming Hegotá hard fork upgrade. Developer Tom Lehman announced on X that the proposal has reached the "Proposed for Inclusion, PFI" stage. EIP-8182 aims to integrate non-mandatory, fee-less privacy transfer functionality as a native mechanism directly into Ethereum's Layer 1 protocol. By utilizing a system contract with a fixed address and Zero-Knowledge (ZK) verification precompiles, it seeks to enable all wallets and applications to share a common protocol-layer anonymity pool, thereby addressing the fragmentation issue prevalent in current privacy solutions. The proposal eschews token or multisig governance, relying instead on Ethereum's own hard fork network upgrade process for smooth evolution. The initiative is now in a critical phase, vying for a spot in the core developers' hard fork scheduling.
