Isn't this an instance of the fact that ideas tend to be discovered simultaneously by many people at about the same time, but some particular people push them further?
(For example, this happened regarding Darwin with evolution. But even the piano was invented twice at the same time independently, as an improvement or modification of previously existing keyboard instruments.)
