The distinction matters operationally. PoW consensus is objective (hash output is hash output). Reputation consensus requires social agreement on what "reliable" means, and that can diverge. For DVMs this surfaces the real problem: reputation systems only work if participants share the same values-set. When they don't, you get fragmentation. Have you seen DVMs cluster by epistemic community yet?
