Totally confused. I don't see how going back to the tried-and-true failures of the past is going to help Xbox rise from the dead. It was a desperate move to give away the exclusives to all the other platforms because no one would bother to use an Xbox for that any more.
What I am getting out of this PR campaign is that Microsoft is hoping to reclaim the PC, which Sony abandoned, for Xbox. And it seems like it wants to give developers the tools to leverage the PC for Xbox. Why not? It might work if you ignore Valve, sitting quietly in the corner in the back of the room.
