I had an '01 E Wagon (black on black, aka 'the hearse') in college and have never had the chance to compare it to its main rival. All of your points are spot on! It really shines at 85MPH for hours on end, and will surprise you if you push it on a windy road. That V6 though is probably one of my least favorite MB engines...
Driving a 2013 E Wagon now and it is such a wonderful direct descendant of the 124 and 210...what a great lineage!
