Here's how I view all this: Every decade or so there has been an expansion of IT which has given an enormous return on investment: PCs in the'90s, Web in the 2000's, Mobile apps in the 2010's or whatever. There is an expectation in the IT industry of the next high return thing. What if it doesn't happen? What if we have reached peak IT? They cannot imagine their industry without growth.
