The Gulf, Straits included, are going to be secured by a coalition of the Petro-states, Pakistan, Israel, and the USA. China may be allowed a peripheral role. Europe's contribution in the near future is trivial anyway, and the only question for me is if this becomes an opportunity to normalise operations with Russia. An artful deal would leverage, rather than tear asunder, old relationships like Iran's with Cuba, China, etc.
