I think Core V28 is fine. Knots has more features in terms of filtering non-moneraty transactions and probably for mempool settings (not sure about that because when I was running Core I didn't mine so didn't looked at mempool settings).

Info how to setup Knots and Datum Gateway on Debian based OS are in Mechanic's and the team videos but the mining is set up as pooled mining.
In Matt's video he shows how to setup for solo mining Bitcoin.
