Sad and tragic. Although fatal police shootings are already rare in the UK, I expect they are even rarer for those not armed with a projectile weapon or something that looks like one. With the US population being 5 times that of the UK, one might expect the US to have 5 times as many fatal police shootings of civilians not armed with a projectile weapon or facsimile. But a database at The Washington Post shows there were more than 200 fatal shootings of such persons not armed with a projectile weapon or something that might have resembled one in the US in each of 8 recent years (2015-2022). That is more than 20 times the annual rate of all fatal police shootings per unit population in the UK.
