I am such a person. So my question is this: Who will look out for people like me? Because I definitely can't count on the people I've met. My dad was a perpetrator. I have few friends and we don't hang out in "meatspace". My wife would jump in, I'm sure, but she would be at even more risk than me. Strangers definitely won't stick up for me, based on experience. Who is left, and what is their motivation?

Until I recently moved, my neighbors would regularly threaten me physically and did everything in their power to make me miserable, and the only reason they didn't take it further was clearly fear of the law. They hate me, and have spent hours yelling slurs at me for being autistic. They burned down a trailer in their backyard with their dog still in it. I wouldn't be surprised if they thought about doing the same to me. What would stop them if the law weren't a barrier?
