I might have had to make changes to the shutdown and reboot scripts, too. Each init level had its own monolithic script.

It’s a simple system that does not do parallel boot.

Most of us don’t do parallel boot anyway, simply because it is not that much faster and is harder to debug. So all the nonsense about the advantages of ‘declarative boot’ is indeed nonsense.
