Like I got the idea behind Factorio, but I can't understand how I can do better in shit like Opus Magnum. (Video so you don't have to google it)

My designs aren't smart, and I don't know how to get out of this closed-mindedness WITHOUT checking a guide, which is ANTITHETICAL TO WHAT I WANT TO DO.
EDIT: Honestly, even in Factorio, I'm not that great at designing anything new either, I'm still using old systems.
