what also confuses me is the generally received wisdom that "text just looks worse on [non-high dpi] oleds
is this actually true? or is it just people with microsoft cleartype turned on, not realizing it only really works with lcd subpixel layouts
all of my text looking-at happens on macOS, which hasn't supported subpixel antialiasing for years now. so if it's really just cleartype that the windows users are complaining about, i really don't care
