I think these things need to be anonymous as much as possible, two good examples:-
1. Musicians applying to an orchestra, the committee that approves them never knows anything about them, they are hidden behind a screen, the floor is carpeted so that they cannot tell what shoes the musician is wearing the only way they can make a decision is on the quality of the performance. This has changed the intake of most orchestras quite a bit.
