You can also find microtonal influences in the Amercian blues. On a guitar you can do all kinds of bends, which gives the blues this emotional, longing quality.

Microtonality can be also heard in singing (before autotune). I think that's what gives me a lump in the throat every time I listen to Billie Holiday's Strange Fruit. Her voice matches perfectly the imagery.
