When the professional crew got there they decided I and my partner needed to retrieve the body, being as we were the ones who found him. (Really because they didn't want to go into that cold water.) So we put on harnesses roped to trees on the bank and waded out.
I'll spare you further details of extricating him from the tree, except the odd one that his skin had turned blue from the cold. About the same color as his faded jeans.
It was the first time I ever touched a dead body.
