The EU has programs to fund participation in standards development, which is both smart and… do we think people will just quit their day jobs to take this funding and participate? I am wondering how that works in other spaces.
(I should note that I’m a little aghast at all this, but everyone I’ve talked to from the EU is working very genuinely to make this work. Of course we’re seeing a bit of a self-selected group who will show up at FOSS events, but still, it’s heartening.)
