This happens because the easiest way to get rid of a fuck up is to push them through the system, at least this has been my observation in tech. I've only know one resident to get fired and that was because he was a belligerent sperg that everyone hated an almost got in a fist fight with his attending.

There was another resident that fled when a patient coded and hid under a table in the breakroom. She got removed and put in a place where she couldn't cause any real problems and pushed on through.
